The title of the works within the series ‘Facade’ refers to a facade, the first ‘view’ of a building. A facade as a welcome invitation to enter a building or to hide what lies behind it. That duality is also intertwined in this series. The facade initially offers a kind of recognition and acquaintance that arouses a certain amount of curiosity. You will initially recognize a portrait in the works, although there is also a great abstraction in the works due to the peculiar play of light and shadow originating from the fleeting flame. You are triggered to look deeper and discover, but at the same time you are also repelled by the distortion of reality. Due to the open-mindedness of the soot that remains behind, the image seems to be a blur or a memory.
